ToolsThe receipt scanner in QuickBooks, Xero or Wave, or a receipt app

The steps

  1. Install the mobile app for your accounting software and turn on receipt capture.
  2. Connect your business bank account and card so transactions import automatically.
  3. Photograph each receipt the day you get it, then throw the paper away if your accountant agrees.
  4. Once a week, approve the matches the app suggests. Fix the category on anything it gets wrong.
  5. Each correction teaches the rules, so the next month needs fewer fixes.
